CABO PULMO DIVing

One of the jewels of the East Cape is Cabo Pulmo National Park. It is located approximately two hours away from San Jose del Cabo. Since 1995 it has been a protected area and recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, representing one of the most impressive achievements in ocean conservation and the only hard coral reef in the Gulf of California. 

Estimated to be around 20,000 years old, the reef of Cabo Pulmo has been considered a treasure of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula and has over 800 species of marine life, hence its nickname, ‘’The Aquarium of the World’’ by Jacques Cousteau.

Cabo Pulmo is a perfect example of ecotourism at its finest. The region is ideal for those seeking a quieter and more natural side of eco tours. Scuba diving and snorkeling are very popular in this area, providing an up-close look at this amazing underwater ecosystem. Cabo Pulmo is home to one of the largest and most diverse coral reefs in North America and five of the world’s seven endangered species of sea turtles find refuge there. The largest variety of sharks, including bull sharks, tiger sharks, hammerhead sharks, blacktip and white tip sharks all can be found here.
